The Premier League finish line is almost in sight as Chelsea secured a 3-1 victory away to Leicester on Wednesday night to leave them needing just one more win to secure the title.
Goals from Didier Drogba, John Terry, and Ramires helped Jose Mourinho’s men come from behind after trailing at the interval. The result gives the Blues a 13 point lead over Arsenal with the Gooners having just 15 points left to fight for.
Chelsea play next on Sunday, May 3rd against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge. Claiming the three points will ensure a fourth Premier League title under the ownership of Roman Abramovich and the third under the management of ‘The Special One’. Previous to the Russian oligarch buying the club Chelsea had just the solitary top flight title to their name.
Meanwhile on Tuesday night Brendan Rodgers’ lost 1-0 away to Hull City to end any lingering hopes the Reds had for qualifying for the Champions League. The Merseysiders have suffered a sharp decline this campaign after going so close to ending their title drought last year. The defeat has cast doubt on Rodgers’ position at Anfield following a disappointing FA Cup exit to Aston Villa earlier in the month.
Liverpool’s faltering form has all but ensured Manchester United’s re-entry into Europe’s elite competition. The Red Devils failed to qualify last season under the stewardship of David Moyes but have found their way back to the top table in Louis Van Gaal’s first year at Old Trafford.
